Torch Labs develops field-intelligence infrastructure for skilled trades. Its work focuses on capturing, organizing, reviewing, retrieving, and maintaining practical knowledge.
What is Jack?
Jack is an AI-powered field mentor and living knowledge system developed by Torch Labs. It is intended to help construction teams capture and retrieve practical trade knowledge with visible sources and review context.
Who is Jack built for?
Jack is being developed for construction crews, apprentices, experienced tradespeople, contractors, training teams, and authorized knowledge reviewers who need practical knowledge to move responsibly between people and projects.
What is the difference between public, contributed, and reviewed knowledge?
Public information is intentionally available to anyone. Contributed knowledge is source material supplied through an interview, document, demonstration, or note and may remain private. Reviewed knowledge has passed the applicable ownership, sensitivity, and technical checks for its intended audience. Review for internal use does not automatically authorize public publication.
Does an interview or Living Memory contribution become public?
No. Private interviews, site records, proprietary documents, personal information, and Living Memory nodes remain non-public unless a separate publication workflow confirms ownership, consent, sensitivity, technical accuracy, editorial approval, and the right to publish.
Can Jack replace supervision, codes, or approved procedures?
No. Jack does not replace qualified supervision, engineers, current codes, engineered documents, manufacturer instructions, approved site procedures, safety programs, applicable regulations, permits, or professional judgment.
Why do sources and provenance matter?
A useful answer must be evaluated against its source, date, jurisdiction, equipment, site context, and review status. Provenance helps a user understand what supports an answer and where qualified review is still required.
How does a Jack pilot work?
A pilot starts with one crew and one bounded knowledge problem. Torch Labs identifies the intended workflow, relevant sources, review boundaries, and pilot measures before testing how Jack supports capture and retrieval.
